Rat models come with a set of advantages over mice models: they are physiologically more similar to humans, they are large in size which makes them more amenable for different kinds of research (namely imaging and surgical manipulation), and they have significant advantages in memory and cognition research. The nude rat model is one of the main immunodeficient rat models that are available to researchers. They have greatly reduced T cell levels, which allows them to accept xenografts from humans.
